Sita Rama Lakhsman Hanuman
In Sanatan Dharma, as explained in the Bhagavad Gita, there is only one Supreme God. However, the Lord expands Himself as incarnations and avatars, and descends to our material world in order to conduct His missions.
Śrimad Bhagavatam 9.10.2
tasyāpi bhagavān eṣa
sākṣād brahmamayo hariḥ
aṁśāṁśena caturdhāgāt
putratvaṁ prārthitaḥ suraiḥ
rāma-lakṣmaṇa-bharata-
śatrughnā iti saṁjñayā
तस्यापि भगवानेष साक्षाद् ब्रह्ममयो हरि: ।
अंशांशेन चतुर्धागात् पुत्रत्वं प्रार्थित: सुरै: ।
रामलक्ष्मणभरतशत्रुघ्ना इति संज्ञया ॥ २ ॥
Being prayed for by the demigods, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Absolute Truth Himself, directly appeared with His expansion and expansions of the expansion. Their holy names were Rāma, Lakhsman, Bharata and Śatrughna. These celebrated incarnations thus appeared in four forms as the sons of Mahārāja Daśaratha.
In Treta Yuga (Silver Age) Rama appears on Earth as one of the ten avatars of Lord Krishna. Rama was the first of the four sons of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, The names of the other three sons are Bharat, Lakhsman and Satrugna. All four brothers are regarded to be in the category of Vishnu (Vishnu-Tattva).
Sita Devi, the beloved consort of Lord Ramachandra, is understood to be an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, the eternal consort of Lord Vishnu. Rama is the epitome of perfection, the uttama purusha, fulfilling all his duties towards both family and subjects
When it was time for Rama to be made crown-prince, his stepmother, Kaikeyi, got Dasharatha to send him to the forest for 14 years. His wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana also accompanied him. In the forest, Sita was kidnapped by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. Rama, together with Hanuman and the monkey army, built a bridge to Lanka, killed Ravana, and brought Sita back.
The story of Rama cleanses the soul. Meditating on the noble Rama and chanting His holy name eases the pains of life and lead one to moksha, or liberation. It is also common practice to chant the name of Rama while rocking babies to sleep to bring [peace into their lives.
Hanuman is regarded as the greatest servant/devotee of Rama and is celebrated for his unwavering devotion to Rama. Although Hanuman often appears as a monkey, he is actually regarded as an incarnation of Shiva and Vayu, the wind god.
